What a year!

This year we lived through something no five- or ten-year company plan could have predicted or expected. The crisis hit our industry, putting our fellow colleagues, beloved venues and rehearsal spaces in the uncomfortable unknown.

It was a year of learning and adaptation, when thinking differently became a superpower. This period has motivated us to become stronger and make crucial changes to our organisation. It was a period of growth, with new members joining and the Fabula family expanding. We had more time to improve our communication and learn about each other, have conversations and draw light to important topics. It was a year of presence.

…presented an online reading of the play Private Rehearsals in partnership with Japan Foundation London, directed by Hannah Calascione, written by Tetsu Taoshita and adapted by Oladipo Agboluaje.

...hosted online dance classes throughout the first UK lockdown, led by Mara Galeazzi, Lisa Marie-Probert and Nina Thilas-Mohs.

...offered free space at The Hub Studios, London, to freelance dance artists for two weeks in October.

…launched the first Fabula Collective Associate Artist Course, Future Fabula, successfully delivering the first part online from November 2020, and continuing in the studio in the new year.

...worked with our Associate Artists James Pett and Travis Clausen-Knight on our first short dance film, to be premiered in 2021.

...launched this new-look website full of information about our mission, our work and our team.

Through the challenges of this crisis, we had so many opportunities and so much support coming our way and we could not be more grateful for it all. This year may not have been full of live events, but it was busy with preparation.

In the words of our Creative Director Yukiko:

‘2020 was the preparation, 2021 is for doing.'
